I work for a company that has a long and lengthy list of Notes applications used by the entire organization. We control access to these applications using Domino Directory groups and delegate the administration of these groups to various business users and owners of the applications. Most of the time people that need access to an app, don't know who to call. They try using our system access system, but since the system isn't set up for granting access to Notes apps, that avenue doesn't work very well for them. Their other alternative is to call me. I will then proceed to find this application, open the ACL, take a look at the groups listed, look up the groups to find the administrator and pass that info on to my user. There has to be a better way.
I created the xGroupToolbox that has a couple tools that can be deployed and accessed by anyone in your organization. The tools provide a drop down list of applications and returns the groups listed in the ACL, group adminstrator(s), and links to both the group and administrator.
The Notes Application Finder uses the select2 jQuery replacement for the standard select box. It allows for the the list to be searched and uses a typeahead to update and return the results. The drop down list is populated from main catalog source (I used catalog.nsf) and in the settings I have included a setting to indicate which category of entries in your catalog.nsf you wish to use. This is to allow you to exclude certain system db's, test db's and others that might otherwise be in your catalog.
The Notes Group Administation Finder will return a list of groups for which the authenticated user is listed as the group administrator. Future enhancements could include allowing a select box there for help desk personnel to look that up for others besides themselves.
This is my first contribution to OpenNTF and I could see this project growing to include additional tools that would be useful to end users or help desk staff. If you have any ideas on improvements or would like to contribute let me know. You can download the latest version at xGroupToolbox.
